You will stay at the Icehotel for two nights. One of them will be in the comfort of your own warm hotel room, the other night will be in a designed ice room.
At the Icehotel, the actual bed frame is made of ice – but you are separated from the surface by a slatted bed base with mattress, reindeer skins and pillows. We provide you with expedition-style sleeping bags which are tested for extreme temperatures, so you’ll be fine with just thermals, hat, warm socks and a mid-layer jumper.
Sleeping in an ice room is a unique experience, which is nice to share with someone. The icebed is large enough for two, you will have your own sleepingbag, and you will be wearing thermal underwear and a hat to bed. If you would like to share a room with a colleague, please indicate this in your registration.
During the day, bundle up in layers: a breathable underlayer, an insulating middle layer, and a windbreaking outer layer. At night, you’ll want to sleep in a single light layer (like thermal pajamas). We’ll make sure to provide you with items to keep you warm.
The temperature inside the ice hotel room is usually around 23 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit. Although it’s pretty far from tropical, it’s not going to plunge too far past freezing.
(Frozen) Water and electricity don’t go well together, so please don’t expect to find a place to charge your phone (or any power outlets at all). However, we will provide you with a powerbank to ensure you have enough juice to snap that perfect shot from your magical room. Your room will have a door made out of curtains instead of the more traditional wood.
Even if your room is a unique fantasy of frozen art you will probably want to join us in the heated areas for convivial moments in your spare time. You have access to you room from 6 pm until 11 am the following morning
There is way too much to experience! When you’re sleeping in a cold room you’ll be greeted in the morning with a cup of hot lingonberry juice to ensure a warm start to your day.
It wouldn’t be pretty… Heated bathrooms are of course provided near your room. The changing rooms, sauna and showers are communal for women and men respectively and there is of course privacy for each of you.
When staying in an ice room you store your belongings in a locker or booth in the warm service building which is staffed 24 hours, located just meters from the hotel.
We’ll have a tutorial how to best enjoy your night in your ice room before it’s time for bed. And if you wake up in the middle of the night and need to get out of the cold – we have a number of warm beds as a back-up.
